Moved by the colours and textures of ocean, sand, and sun, Britta learned about capturing the passion of the sea when she was a young girl. In fact, a collection of beads purchased with her weekly allowance is still treasured today.

Inspired to live artfully, despite the day to day challenges of mothering her first loves — two young and curious boys — Britta steals time to create. And while she admits it’s more difficult to find the hours for the stunning large works of art she painted before the boys came along, she makes time for her first artistic love … what she modestly calls beading.

The jewelry line Britta was launched in 2003 when earthy turquoise took the fashion world by storm. Fascinated by the stone and its ability to go from chunky boho to smooth sophistication, Britta’s first commercial jewelry collection was born.

Over the years, the Canadian-born jewelry artist has moved on to work with a wide variety of gem stones – from the staple favourite of turquoise, to Peruvian opals, aquamarines, coral, and beautiful handmade hill tribe silver beads. She marvels that the earth has created such stunning gems and feels privileged to work with the vast natural array of stones made available to her.

Britta loves to be surrounded by simple beauty… large bright canvases in her home make way for a mass of big windows so the beauty of the changing seasons is displayed.

Indeed, Britta’s collections are most often inspired by other beautiful objects from the Edmonton river valley to a Maui sunset or a vibrant blue day in Santa Monica. Britta also borrows ideas from works of art in a gallery or high end boutique, designing whole collections around a dramatic painting or slip of silk.
